Assassination attempt on President Trump 13 July 2024

On 13 July 2024, an assassin , 20 year old male Thomas Matthew Crooks, set up within 147 yards of where President Trump was speaking and fired 8 times. The USSS was told to wait until the shooter fired a shot and then engage. With the grace of God, President Trump turned his head the instant the bullet would have hit him directly in the side of the head. The bullet struck a supporter.A Fire Chief, and killed him and injured two others.

The shooter was noticed on the roof by attendees and reported to the police but nothing was done. Attendees recorded the man on the roof and tried to alert police minutes before Crooks fired. It seem to be some confusion by the overwatch team if this man was part of the protection group or an assassin. This site was to be posted and protected by local law enforcement. The shooter was in sight of the other protection sinipers for at least 15 minutes. There is a question why Trump was allowed to go on stage with this known threat spotted and ready to shoot. The threat was neutralized by a USSS sniper at a greater distance only after the assassin fired 8 times at President Trump.

The USSS Director make several comments regarding the shooting for days. This included that the roof was too steep to post someone there. This was not part of the USSS area and was left up to the locals. It was too hot to post someone one the roof. The shooters position was in direct line of sight of where President Trump was placed to speak to the large crowd.

Crooks fired eight times. At one point a local officer who had learned of Crook's position on the roof attemped to climb up and confront the shooter. But while the officer was dangling from the roof, Crooks aimed his rifle at the officer and the officer fell and was unable to investigate further.
